Most of my patients already know that I am huge proponent of daily meditation. I do my best to try and meditate for at least 5 minutes every day (although I am quite guilty of missing this goal many times!) The list of mental and physical health benefits of meditation is quite long, but includes:

  • Reduces stress
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Improves self-awareness
  • Increases happiness and emotional health
  • Improves attention
  • Improves memory
  • Improves sleep
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Controls pain
  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Decreases depression
  • Reduces fatigue

Convinced that meditation may help you but not sure where to start? There are tons of books and resources online to get you started. In addition, there are many apps available to help you practice meditation and get you into the “habit.” I’ve tried a few of them and while I’m not formally recommending one over the others, I have personally found Headspace to be super easy to use and helpful in inspiring me to stick with a daily meditation routine. You can download it for free, although if you want the upgrades, you have to pay for a yearly subscription. It’s not the cheapest app out there, but I have found it to be the best, at least for my needs.

If you’re reading this post right now, why not try meditation today? Or if you are already someone who has tried it, how about you make today the day to get back into a routine? After all, it can only help to bring more peace to your life! Good luck everyone and happy meditating!
